Description (last modified by Musti) (diff)

Based on #1023 as an optimizationa nd hardware improvement, the following solution has been developed:

Telemetry and telecontrol MSP430 Launchpad shield:

  • compatible with V2 of MSP430 Launchpad
  • 4 controllable channels (VNQ05XSP16)
    • on/off control
    • common supply voltage 6-36V
    • 8A per channel and total
    • overcurrent protection, undervoltage protection
    • current sensing per channel
  • accurate total current meaasurement (INA219)
    • current measurment via 10mOhm resistor
    • voltage measurement
    • power measurement
  • 1-wire support
  • i2c support (connector for external devices)
  • 2x GPIO
  • selectable supply source (3.3v via serial or 3.3 from on board regulator supplied from voltage input)
  • overvoltage and EDD protection on all channels and input

The design has to be compatible with 150 degree celsius maximal temperature rating.

Change History

Circuit diagram and PCB layout attached. All functions are implemented, TVS protection diodes are for now specified to be 24V, but they can be easily replaced with 42V ones.

Bill of material included, price calculation for 10 boards must be made.

Proceeding to a prototyping stage.

This design if for microcontroller MSP430G2553, but can be used with several others, including MSP430G2331, however appropriate software modifications have to be made. See #1032 for the microcontroller code.

The shield should be modified, so it is stackable to provide expansion.

comment:9 Changed 7 years ago by Musti

This shield should be modified to be stackable and as wellc ompativle with Sensor gateway nased on Arduino.

We got demo unit, and if I understood correctly there is an communication issue...
Could you explain just what is the issue, and what do you believe could be the issue?

This weekend we have some awesome hacker guests in our hacklab so we can put all of our heads together and try to troubleshoot any issues...

I just don't have the info how and where to start...

comment:11 Changed 6 years ago by Musti

Are you sure you have this telemetry board? I cant recalls ending it to you.

comment:12 Changed 6 years ago by valentt

This is only one that I found on trac when searching for ina219, but I believe this is the one you sent:
Telemetry/sensgw/ina219 but I can't find it on trac... is there a trac ticket for this other one you sent to us?

Probably not. But the Arduino library for it is poorly written. I need to publish more code, will try to do it tomorrow.

He, he, there is a first time for everything ;) I would never expect to see something done previously than seeing it in a ticket :)

Should we move this discussion to new ticket that is related to device you sent us? It would be better that you open the ticket because I wouldn't know how to title it properly.

After you publish more code we can join and try to make it better. Thanks!

  • Priority changed from critical to normal

Is this telemetry board based upon MSP still relevant? Or is one with INA219 one which you would suggest people build and use? Have you looked into using ESP8266 base for INA219 chip?

comment:17 Changed 4 years ago by Musti

We are migrating everything to ESP8266, shortly we will have a design capable of measuring current and 8channel control.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
